The path to addressing affordable housing in Evanston requires a data-driven approach grounded in understanding the scope of the problem. I am open to many solutions—such as land trusts, zoning reforms, local voucher systems, or property tax exemptions—but before endorsing a specific solution we need clarity on fundamental questions: what constitutes affordable housing, who needs it, and how many units are required. A neutral consulting organization without financial ties to the city should analyze these issues to ensure transparency and objectivity. By answering these critical questions, we can craft solutions that effectively reflect the needs and values of the Evanston community. Read my press release for more details (click here).
